SPECTRA is a new Light and Sound experience coming to San Francisco in Summer 2024 as part of a revitalization project of Fulton Plaza at Civic Center SF by ILLUMINATE.org and artist Joshua Hubert. The large-scale light installation (1.6 acres) will span the rooftops of the SF Public Library and Asian Art Museum with 1,271 bulbs that will sparkle and pulse across the plaza in over 4 billion colors. A Sound System with 4 directional speakers on each roof allow for 8D soundscapes to flow through the plaza that follow and sync to the lighting effects. The waveform pattern of SPECTRA mimics both the light and sound spectrums like a ripple over water above a pair of Koi Fish that circle the plaza on the blacktop murals by Jeremy Novy. Through SPECTRA, we celebrate the interconnectedness of light, sound, and humanity, weaving together a rich tapestry of experiences that define our city. The project is a partnership of Illuminate, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, Friends of the San Francisco Library, and the Civic Center Community Benefit District (CCCBD). |
